Jumhooree Party (JP) leaders have met and held discussions with Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate nominated as the presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.
Speaking to VNews, a senior member of JP said the meeting held with Mohamed Ibrahim Solih was a very productive and successful one.
JP reportedly shared the details of the work being done to elect a running mate from the party with Mohamed Ibrahim Solih.
JP’s three deputy leaders Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, Abdulla Ameen and Mohamed Fayaz along with the party’s Vice President Dr. Abdulla Mausoom took part in the meeting.
While the joint opposition had agreed on an MDP presidential candidate and a JP running mate, JP says they are working to select a running mate according to the party charter and will soon disclose the result.
VNews understands JP will announce their candidate by the end of this week. Meanwhile rumors on social media declared that JP had already settled on a candidate but this was denied by JP.
JP’s deputy leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said JP has not taken any such decision, even unofficially.
A statement released by the joint opposition stated that all the parties together have agreed upon having an MDP presidential candidate and a JP running mate competing in the next presidential election in order to save the country from the current administration which had destroyed the peace, judiciary and democracy in the country.
