Three members of Jumhooree Party (JP) have applied for the running mate position opened by the party to compete in the upcoming elections.
The three members that submitted applications for the position are former minister and JP’s deputy leader Abdulla Ameen, deputy leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, and Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem.
The joint opposition had agreed that their chosen candidate to run for President would be MDP’s candidate while the candidate to run for Vice-President would be selected from JP. With that JP opened the opportunity for interested individuals to apply for the running mate position.
While Ameen applied for the post on Tuesday, both Dr. Hussain and Faisal handed over the necessary documents at a special ceremony held at M. Kunooz on Wednesday. They all detailed the reasons why they are running for the position and appealed the council members to give them this opportunity.
JP said the running mate will be elected at their council meeting held next Friday.
As members are showing a keen interest in applying for the position, it is likely that there will be more submissions within this time period.
