Police have begun a probe after stating that some comments made by opposition alliance’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih regarding them were untrue.
Speaking at Iskandhar Koshi, Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said that it is disheartening to note that opposition presidential candidate spoke untruthfully about them and defamed them. Solih stated that police officers questioned a vessel in distress regarding their political views and if they supported Solih before aiding them, which is completely false, Shifan said.
Shifan said they have run a thorough investigation after Solih uttered those words, and they found that the police did receive a distress report from a boat on August 14, stating that they were sinking. With the help of a boat named ‘Zikura’ and another speedboat, they pumped out the water from the sinking boat, he said.
Shifan said the police institute is steadfast on helping and serving people, therefore any such false comments which could hinder the trust people have in them will be investigated and submitted at relevant authorities.
Action will be taken against every single person who speaks about the police falsely, he said.
While the police have claimed that Solih spoke about them falsely at Maalhendhoo, Solih had not made any such comments at Maalhendhoo.
