South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof says that unrest will be planned and carried out by a few officers in the police institution.
Mahloof said this in a tweet after police Spokesperson, in a press conference, stated that they have received reports that some individuals are planning to carry out violent attacks in order to show the international community that the September 23 presidential elections in Maldives is not a free and fair election.
Mahloof said such commotions will be planned and carried out by a few officers such as police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan.
Mahloof said there is no opportunity to create unrest and that the opposition will win the election with majority votes by God’s Will. After winning the election, all the ‘fake’ intelligence reports created by the police will be investigated, Mahloof said.
Police had previously, on numerous occasions, cited intelligence reports and publicized such information about opposition parties’ leaders. Some of these leaders were charged and jailed based on these reports, he said.
Without giving the press an opportunity to put forth any questions, Shifan had delivered a statement which said that police had received intelligence reports that some individuals are planning to carry out violent attacks in order to show the international community that the September 23 presidential elections in Maldives is not a free and fair election.
Furthermore police had also carried out another such conference on Tuesday, to deliver a statement regarding some ‘comments’ made by opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. They did not give the press any opportunity to put forth questions or to respond to the statement.
While many had condemned the actions of the police, some had even questioned whether Shifan is the police Spokesperson or the Spokesperson of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s presidential candidate. Many had also accused the police of campaigning against the opposition presidential candidate in order to serve the agenda of some individuals.
