Criminal Court on Wednesday nullified the state-raised bribery charge against Villa Group’s Managing Director Ibrahim Siyad Qasim.
The state-raised charge against Siyad for offering bribes was nullified by Criminal Court at a hearing at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Siyad was arrested under the State of Emergency on February 7, citing an investigating being carried out by the police.
Siyad was charged with offering bribes and ordered to be kept in detention pending the outcome of his trial by Criminal Court on March 21. He was released on July 19, after six months in detention.
The state revealed that a letter signed by Siyad was found during their search of former Judicial Administrator Hassan Saeed’s apartment. The letter allegedly showed that Siyad gave USD 2.4 million to former Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, Justice Ali Hameed and his son. Villa Group also arranged the finances for property bought in Malaysia, the state said.
Siyad had repeatedly denied the charges against him.
