Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and Speaker of Parliament Qasim Ibrahim said he had always worked to put the betterment of the people above his own personal interest during his time in the political arena.
Qasim said since 1984, he had worked hard through the Chamber of Commerce, the businessmen’s organization during that time, to bring the political changes that established the democratic era the country is currently experiencing. Many a hurdle was thrown his way, including being jailed and attempts made to bankrupt his business, Qasim said.
Qasim stated that none of these attempts were successful, and none could harm him. Every fall was a stepping stone to rise stronger than before. Qasim noted that he had always worked for the betterment and benefit of the people.
Qasim said spending time with his six young children should certainly take center-stage, however instead, he had spent most of his time working for the betterment and development of the country and its people, because he believes its success is also the success of his family.
He further stated that he would always welcome the obstacles in his political life. Explaining this statement, Qasim said if any member of JP desires to challenge him while he is their leader, he would welcome the challenge without any personal resentment or envy.
Qasim said he believes this is how the youth can prosper and grow in the political field in the coming years.
