Islamic University of Maldives (IUM)’s Chancellor Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has resigned from the post on Thursday.
Dr. Shaheem had sent the letter of resignation to President Abdulla Yameen on Thursday.
Dr. Shaheem had previously also announced that he would resign from the position upon being appointed as the running mate of President Yameen and the subsequent defeat during this year’s presidential election.
He had also been the Islamic minister during both Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan and President Yameen’s presidency.
Dr. Shaheem, who played a huge role in the forming of IUM, had initially been the Vice-Chancellor of the university. He was appointed as Chancellor of IUM on August 22, 2016.
Dr. Shaheem had not made any statement to the media regarding his plans to actively participate in the political arena after his resignation as Chancellor of IUM.
