
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has, on Friday, sent condolences to the family of Fathimath Hilmy upon her passing.
Speaking to Fathimath Hilmy’s nephew Mohamed Hilmy of G. Daisy Maage, via a phone call to Sri Lanka, President Solih said he received the news of her passing with profound sadness. Noting Fathimath Hilmy’s innumerable and invaluable services to the state for a long period of time, President passed on the condolences to the family with a heavy heart.
Fathimath Hilmy, Ma. Faahi, passed away at Colombo, Sri Lanka, after a prolonged illness at the age of 76.
She served in the state for 41 years and had received double pension. She began working in the government on September 8, 1966, as a teacher at Hameedhiyya Montessori School. She was later a teacher and then the principal at Naasiriyya Montessori School and worked as a supervisor at Iskandhar School in later years.
Late Fathimath Hilmy had also worked at various other sectors in the government. These include her work at senior positions at Ministry of Trade and Industries, Post department, National Institute of Education and at Dhivehii Raajjeyge Adu radio channel. When she retired on January 17, 2008, she was the Director of National Library of Maldives.
She had also been awarded the special National Award for her work in children’s literature; having published many books for small children in Dhivehi Language.
