Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has signed for Jumhooree Party (JP) on Thursday night.
MP Riyaz Rasheed signed for JP at a special ceremony held at the party’s main office M. Kunooz on Thursday night at the presence of party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
Speaking at the ceremony, Qasim said he had held out hope for MP Riyaz Rasheed to join the party for a long time, as the MP is a close comrade, both in the political arena and the business field.
Speaking at the ceremony, MP Riyaz Rasheed said he left Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and joined JP for the betterment of the people he represent and not for any personal gain.
He said this decision was well thought-out and one he had shared with PPM’s PG leaders and with the former President and party President Abdulla Yameen.
Noting that this is not the first time he had worked with Qasim, MP Riyaz Rasheed said he had previously worked at the parliament’s special committee with Qasim, an experience he described as ‘unforgettable’.
He described Qasim as a great leader who is both humble and unenvious of people.
JP currently has 21 MPs in the parliament representing the party.
