Foreign minister Abdulla Shahid stated that Maldivians can travel to United Arab Emirates (UAE) without a visa, starting from 2019.
Minister Shahid said this via a tweet after his visit with the UAE’s foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan during his ongoing trip to the country.
Minister Shahid had travelled to UAE after his trip to India last week. During the visit with UAE’s foreign minister, minister Shahid briefed him on the new government’s policies and discussed the strengthening of bilateral ties between the two countries and also carried discussions on increasing trade and investment.
Minister Shahid tweeted that a new visa agreement has been reached between the two countries and Maldivians can travel to UAE visa-free from 2019.
The Maldivian finance minister and economic minister also took part in the meeting.
While minister Shahid travelled to UAE on Friday, he is also scheduled to travel to China and Saudi Arabia after concluding the current trip.
