It has been ascertained that TC Sports Club’s forward Ali Ashfaq will bag this year’s ‘Golden Boot’ in the country’s biggest sports awards “Mihaaru Awards”.
The Golden Boot is awarded for the highest scorer in each season, which follows a point system in awarding the winner. Thus, each player will receive 1 point for each goal scored in matches played in Male’ League and/or Minivan Championship, 2 points for each goal in Dhivehi Premier League and 3 points for each goal at national team and club level scored at international tournaments.
Ashfaq, who played for New Radiant at the beginning of the season and later changed to TC Sports Club, has scored a total of 42 goals, achieving 76 points which secured him the Golden Boot at this year’s Mihaaru Awards. He received 18 points for 6 goals at AFC Cup while playing for New Radiant, 14 points for 14 goals at Male’ League while playing for New Radiant, and 44 points for 22 goals at Dhivehi Premier League while playing for TC Sports Club.
The runner-up for the prestigious award was Club Eagles’ forward Ahmed Rizwan with 62 points by 33 goals in the season.
The Mihaaru Awards, to be held early next year, will present awards for 24 categories, thus making it the largest sports awards in the Maldives. These awards include best three players, most promising player and Golden Boot for top scorer in football.
Other sports awarded in the event include volleyball, athletics, table tennis, swimming and badminton. This is the first awarding event which includes individual sports categories.
