Indian warship INS Rana has entered the Maldivian waters on Sunday morning.
According to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Indian Naval Ship (INS) “Rana” is to conduct a joint surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) with the MNDF’s Coast Guard.
This is part of a series of such patrols, where the joint surveillance will ensure that no illegal procedures are carried out in the zone which will further improve security in the region, MNDF said.
MNDF said INS Rana will depart form the Maldives after concluding the surveillance on December 14.
The two countries have been carrying out a series of such programs, one of which was the “Exercise Dhosti” – a trilateral joint navy exercise between Maldives, Sri Lanka and India aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the Indian Ocean – held from November 25 to 28 last year.
