Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has opened application for its primary in the upcoming parliamentary elections slashed for next year.
The party has opened application for its primary from December 8 to 19.
Although the coalition leaders had agreed to contest in the parliament elections together as per their agreement, MDP, during its national congress meeting on December 1, made the decision to contest in all the constituencies.
According to MDP, only members who had registered with the party by December 7 are eligible to vote in the primary. After the eligible voters list is announced, the party will open complaint submission from December 13 to 16. After which the final list of eligible voters for their primary will be publicized on December 18, the party said.
While the application for MDP’s primary ends on December 19, members will vote in the primary on January 19, MDP said.
The senior members of MDP’s leadership have decided to contest in the upcoming primary. These include former President Mohamed Nasheed, Chairperson Hassan Latheef, his deputies Ali Niyaz and Ahmed Abdulla, and MDP’s secretary general Anas Abdul Sattar.
