National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) said the damage incurred during the great flood caused by heavy downpour in the capital Male’ last Wednesday has reached MVR 1.2 million.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, NDMC’s project director Hisaan Hassan said they had completed assessment of 173 households out of the 214 affected by flooding, while assistance has been provided to all those effected by the flood.
Hisaan said the rest of the places have not been yet assessed as the residents are unable to move elsewhere at the moment. However all available information on these places have been collected and filed, Hisaan said.
Hisaan also highlighted that out of the 214, six houses were heavily affected, all in Maafannu district; M. Lonadhooge the most affected of the six.
As soon as the state provides funds to NDMC on Monday, they will begin assisting the affected families financially after evaluating the extent of damage, Hisaan said.
During Wednesday’s heavy rain, the capital had experienced 220 millimeters of rain and people from two houses had to be housed elsewhere.
