More than 300 people have signed for Jumhooree Party (JP) on Monday night.
Membership forms of the newly joined members of JP were handed over to the party during a special ceremony held at M. Kunooz on Monday night. The chief guest of the ceremony was party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
Of the newly joined members, 300 forms were submitted by members from Sh. Milandhoo. These forms were handed over to JP by Ibrahim Mansoor, who is set to contest in the party’s primary for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Milandhoo Constituency.
Other prominent members include Abdul Sattar, AA. Bodufulhadhoo, who played an active role in Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) during the last five years, and Fathimath Zaeema who will be contesting in the party’s primary for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the L. Fonadhoo Constituency.
Speaking at the ceremony, leader Qasim Ibrahim congratulated and welcomed the newly joined members, stating that he hopes all the candidates contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections on JP’s ticket will be academically qualified, young and capable individuals. JP’s door is always open for such individuals and every single member has the opportunity to contest in the primary, he said.
Qasim further said JP will work to select the most capable candidate for each constituency, through internal elections.
“The current MP for Milandhoo Constituency was also elected to parliament through JP’s ticket in 2014. Hence, all the benefits the citizens of that constituency received in the last five years through that MP was the work of JP”, Qasim said.
Qasim advised all interested members to quickly submit application forms to partake in the primary, without waiting for the last moment.
JP had opened application to contest in the party primary till January 25.
