Documents for the formation of the new political party 'People’s National Congress' (PNC) have been submitted to the Elections Commission (EC) on Wednesday, with 4000 signatures of its future members.
EC had approved the formation of PNC - supported by former President Abdulla Yameen - on December 27, with the permission being handed over to the Fonadhoo MP and former Vice President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdul Raheem Abdullah.
Abdul Raheem stated that they received 3000 signatures almost as soon as the approval for the party was granted. He was accompanied by several senior figures of the former government for the submission of the papers today.
A number of notable figures from the PPM frontlines have now resigned and joined PNC.
