It has been announced that the inauguration of the Parliament for this year will be held on February 7.
Parliament stated the ceremony is to be held at Dharubaaruge, just as it has been done since 2016. They also added that preparations are now underway from their end.
According to the 84th section of the Constitution, during the first convening of parliament of the year, an official statement should by expressed by then president regarding the state of the country and on how to prioritize to overcome the difficulties. This will be President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s first time expressing the statement.
The last meeting of the parliament was concluded on the December 15, 2018.The meeting was concluded briefly after an unsuccessful attempt to obtain votes on some of the bills that had to be passed, due to lack of sufficient members to take part in the vote.
These bills were important to get approved since they will pave the way to the fulfilling of certain pledges made by President Solih to the citizens of Maldives, which he assured would be fulfilled within his first 100 days of taking office.
