Maldives Meteorological Service has released a statement, warning citizens of islands in the central area of deteriorating weather in the next few hours to come.
According to the MET office, along with heavy rain and winds, some islands will also experience thunderstorms.
While the weather is expected to worsen within the next 24 hours for the central region, it is also expected that the Northern and Southern atolls will experience some signs of a storm in the central region.
According to the MET office, winds are expected to reach speeds of 17 miles from 7 miles per hour, in the direction of central Maldives from South and south-east. All other regions are expected to experience winds between 5 to 13 miles an hour. During the storm, it is also possible for the winds to reach as high as 35 miles per hour.
They also added that it is quite possible for the seas in the central region to be rougher compared to the rest of the country, due to the changes in wind speeds.
