Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to contest in nine additional constituencies and announced the names of the candidates.
JP had previously announced the names of 36 candidates contesting on the party’s ticket in the parliamentary election.
The new constituencies announced at the special ceremony held at JP’s main office, M. Kunooz on Monday night were Th. Kinbidhoo Constituency, Lh. Naifaru Constituency, HA. Ihavandhoo Constituency, Sh. Milandhoo Constituency, HDh. Nolhivaram Constituency, N. Holhudhoo Constituency, Th. Hirilandhoo Constituency, GDh. Madaveli Constituency, and Addu-Meedhoo Constituency.
With the new addition, JP will be contesting in 45 constituencies in the upcoming parliamentary election. Currently, the legal procedures required of the candidates are being carried out, JP said.
According to the coalition agreement, JP is meant to contest in 22 constituencies. However, due to discord between the parties on the matter, JP decided to contest in all desired categories. When the application was opened, 97 members showed interest in competing for the parliamentary elections.
