Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has recorded a statement by minister Ahmed Mahloof in the case of a large sum of funds having been transferred to his account by SOF, during the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement.
Youth minister Mahloof confirmed that he was indeed summoned to ACC and a statement was taken from him. It is his request that a conclusion to the case is reached at the earliest possible convenience.
During the detailed report ACC released on February 14 regarding the MMPRC embezzlement, it was revealed that USD 33,000 (MVR 508,850) was transferred to minister Mahloof's personal account.
As soon as the report was publicized, Mahloof confirmed that no illegal dealings had been made between him and SOF. He added that the funds he received from them were part of an investment in a family business going by the name 'genes'.
On February 14, President Solih had informed minister Mahloof that he is suspended from duty until the case has been resolved.
Mahloof stated that he fully respected this decision.
