President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met with GDh. Vaadhoo Council and ADh. Kunburudhoo Council.
During the meetings held separately at the President’s Office, discussions regarding the wishes of the people were shared with the President.
The issues mentioned by Vaadhoo Council include waste management, issues faced by farmers, and the issue of flooding in the island. They also carried discussions regarding further development of the island school and protecting cultural heritage sites in the island.
Kunburudhoo Council noted that lack of land is hindering developmental projects, while the island is also suffering due to the lack of a proper water and sewerage system. The island is also in need of a bigger harbor, the council noted.
In response to the points mentioned by both councils President Solih said that he would work to find a prompt solution to these problems. Development projects included in the state budget would also be initiated soon, he said.
Since assuming office, President Solih had been meeting with councils and enquiring them regarding the issues faced by each council. Empowering councils had been one of the President’s pledges.
