11 out of the 18 teachers from Al-Azhar University, arranged to teach at Arabiyya School, arrive in Maldives.
The 11 teachers arrived in the Maldives sometime during Wednesday and the others are set to arrive on Thursday.
Although the academic year for 2019 was meant to start with 22 teachers from the university, only four had arrived by the beginning of the year. Thus, students were being taught by part-time teachers in Arabiyya School till now.
Due to the lack of teachers, disgruntled parents of Arabiyya School had also carried out protests.
Following the agreement between the government of Maldives and the government of Egypt, teachers from Al-Azhar are being sent to teach at Arabiyya School. While the teachers’ salaries are paid by Al-Azhar University, Arabiyya School also follows the university’s curriculum.
