Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President Faisal Naseem have condemned the string of bomb attacks in Sri Lanka on Sunday.
In a tweet on Sunday, President Solih stated that he is deeply saddened by the ‘horrific events’ in Sri Lanka this morning. He conveyed heartfelt sympathies to all affected, describing the act as a ‘cowardly act of terrorism’.
President Solih assured the people of Sri Lanka that the Maldivian people stand in solidarity with them and stated that Maldives will always support the Sri Lankan government in the fight against terrorism.
Vice President Faisal Naseem also sent out a tweet condemning the ‘horrifying attack’. In his tweet, the VP sent condolences to the families and stated that his prayers are with the people pf Sri Lanka and the victims of the attack.
Sri Lanka has a large population of Maldivians residing in the country, thus the Maldivian government has been closely monitoring the situation. The Maldivian government has also urged all Maldivian citizens to remain indoors and contact the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka if in need of any assistance.
