The bus driver involved in a fatal accident, which claimed the life of a female tourist in Hulhumale’, has been remanded for three days by Criminal Court.
The driver of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) operated bus was given the three-day remand when he was produced in the court on Tuesday.
According to police, the accident occurred near the FSM fuel supply station at around 6:30 a.m. on Monday. The main cause of the accident has been ruled out as the driver dozing off while at the wheel. The deceased is a 31-year-old Ukranian woman.
MTCC said while the accident is distressing, they have always taken extra measures to ensure such accidents do not happen.
Speaking to VNews, MTCC’s CEO Hassan Shah said the buses operated by MTCC can only reach 50km/h speeds. This is also an extra measure taken to keep such tragic accidents from occurring, he said.
