Aminath Shima Nafiz (19) was lost at sea on February 22, after her dinghy capsized. She was travelling in a small dinghy from L. Kahdhoo to Maamendhoo with her friend Ibrahim Fazeel (24) when the incident occurred. While Shima was lost at sea, Fazeel reportedly survived the incident by swimming to nearby Six Senses Resort.
According to Fazeel, he gave Shima a phone and an empty petrol tank to help keep her afloat, before swimming to reach the resort for help.
Meanwhile police stated that the narrative given by Fazeel regarding the incident is doubtful. While police had raised many allegations against Fazeel, nothing belonging to Shima had been found on the location where she was claimed lost.
Police are still carrying out searches in hopes of finding her.
