Fenaka Corporation has sent a new 400 kilowatt generator to solve the current electricity issue experienced by residents of Vilufushi.
According to Fenaka, they are working to install the generator in the island’s powerhouse.
Speaking on the matter, Vilufushi Council’s Vice President Ibrahim Shaafiu said they are currently using two 250 kilowatt generators, which does not provide sufficient electricity for the whole island.
However, once the new generator is installed the frequent power outages experienced by the island will come to an end, he said.
The present powerhouse in Vilufushi was established with international aid after the Tsunami disaster. The powerhouse, established in 2009, along with the interconnected transformers throughout the island via a network, has been experiencing service disruption due to improper care, prompting in mounting complaints from residents.
