Police reports 56 accidents in capital Male’ City during the first five days of Ramadan.
Statistics published by the Traffic Department of police reveals that the accidents occurred between May 6-10, injuring 11 people.
According to police, 417 vehicles were stopped and checked during the operation held in this period. Of these, 99 drivers did not possess a driving license, 56 did not carry their driving licenses with them and two under 18 minors were stopped.
Police also stated that 14 cases of speeding were noted along with 33 vehicles that had not completed the required road worthiness procedure. Furthermore, 28 cases of driving without insurance, 34 cases where the annual fee was unpaid, and 15 cases of violation on one-way roads were identified.
Although police works to solve the traffic issues arising in Male’ City, a spike in dangerous accidents has been seen. Since the establishment of the Sinamale’ bridge between Male’ and Hulhule’ these accidents have been frequent in the region.
