Heavy showers in parts of Maldives has led to flooding in some of the streets of the capital.
Among the badly flooded roads include roads Ameenee Magu, Kan'baa Aisa Rani Hin'gun and all roads between Thaajuddeen School and Indhira Gandi Memorial Hospital (IGMH Hospital).
These roads are known to flood easily given heavy showers. Efforts are underway to drain out the excess water.
According to Deputy Mayor of Male' Shamaau Shareef, they are working to drain the excess water with the help of StormWater pumps in 12 areas of Male'. Personnel from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Services are also lending a hand in the draining with their own pumps.
Shamaau also stated that teams are ready with contingencies in case the situation deteriorates, alongside response teams who are working in relief efforts even now.
The issue of flooding has been a problem no government, current or past, have been able to solve with a permanent solution. The public has always criticized and raised it as one of the biggest failures of the governments.
Met office had issued a white alert until on Thursday as it was expected that heavy showers with thundering will be experienced by islands between Raa Atoll and Addu City.
