A police officer is under investigation after being accused of sexually assaulting two male minors.
A reliable source informed VNews that the accused had sexually assaulted the two boys on two different occasions.
According to police, a sexual offence case on a minor was reported against the officer on October 18, 2018. However, due to insufficient evidence against him at the time, he was not convicted in the case.
The media officer also said another such case regarding the same officer was reported to them on March 27. While the officer is currently in Sri Lanka on no-pay leave, police has learned that he committed the heinous act before leaving to Sri Lanka, the media officer said.
The officer further said the case is being investigated by both their Family and Child Protection Department and Professional Standards Command.
Meanwhile a 19-year-old was arrested in Hulhumale’ for sexually assaulting two minors on May 23, after police received report of the incident around 1:00 a.m. that same night. He has been remanded for 12 days by Hulhumale’ court.
