Four families affected by the flood in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi have been transferred to temporary housing.
A large area of Kulhudhuffushi was flooded due to heavy, continuous rain which lasted for two hours on Tuesday.
Speaking to VNews, Kulhudhuffushi Council President Abdul Latheef Hassan said many houses sustained damages due to flooding, damaging household items and electronics.
Four houses were rendered uninhabitable and the families were transferred to temporary housing. Some houses experienced sewage leakage from toilets due to over flooding of water, he said.
“The rain went on for two hours, causing damage to households and goods. While four families were badly affected by the flood, two of the families went to houses belonging to them and the other two were provided temporary housing by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)”, Latheef said.
Latheef also said Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Maldives Police Service (MPS), the island council and locals have been working together to pump out the water.
He further said the degree of damage can be fully identified after the assessment report, which is being worked on by NDMA and the island council.
The entire country has recently been experiencing heavy rain causing floods in some parts of the nation.
