Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed joins the legal team of Supreme Court Justice Abdulla Didi, on whom Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun misconduct investigation.
Although Dr. Jameel is a member of the legal team during the investigation being carried out at Dharubaaruge on Thursday, he was not present during the previous meetings where Justice Didi was presented to JSC.
Other members of the legal team include Adam Shameem, Adam Asif, and former JSC member Mohamed Saleem.
During today’s meeting, Dr. Jameel presented the majority of the defense on behalf of Justice Didi.
When the judge stated the allegations against Justice Didi, Dr. Jameel had enquired regarding procedural irregularities in the case.
Dr. Jameel had also repeatedly attempted to respond on behalf of Justice Didi.
However he was denied the opportunity, stating that the allegations are very clear.
Noting that the case against Justice Didi was submitted to JSC by Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed, Dr. Jameel requested all members of interest to retract themselves from the case.
Dr. Jameel’s reasoning behind the request comes due to Justice Didi being a part of the bench that issued the 13-year prison sentence against Nasheed, and members of Nasheed’s then legal team being selected as part of the committee assembled by JSC.
Although Dr. Jameel did not voice any names, it is probable he was referring to Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath, and Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain.
