Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has met with former South African Justice Johann Kriegler.
Details of this meeting that took place in the Parliament, has not yet been publicized.
Retired Justice Kriegler has served the judicial system of South Africa in a 25 year long career. He has been active in training legal professionals on a national and international level since he quit legal practice.
Reforming the judicial system is one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's most prominent pledges when he took oath to office.
Retired Justice Kriegler arrived in Maldives on May 25, appointed by the Attorney General to conduct an independent assessment into the Maldivian Judiciary, as part of this pledge.
Kriegler will be focusing on researching the laws governing the judiciary, revising the branches of the judiciary, appointing judges as well as revising the procedures in place to investigate judicial misconduct, while considering suggestions from the government.
Kriegler's report is due to be submitted to the Attorney General's Office before August 29, 2019.
