Professor Hassan Ugail has responded to speculation circulated by the opposition claiming that the individual extradited to Maldives from Sri Lanka is not Abdulla Luthfee, the mastermind behind the
terror plot of November 3.
After analyzing photos of Luthfee's face, Professor Ugail shared the findings on his Facebook page, stating that all the photos were of the same individual.
Professor Ugail, who has obtained PhD in applied mathematics, is famous for creating a face recognition technology. According to him, it takes half a second to recognize a face using the HALO face recognition software he created.
One of the speculators alleging that the government brought someone else in Luthfee's place, was the deputy home minister in former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, Ahmed Siddeeq. In a series of tweets, he stated that the government brought another in place of Luthfee.
While he had been spreading such speculation on social media, Ahmed Siddeeq is known for spreading baseless allegations against the current government and its leaders.
Meanwhile, after Luthfee arrived in the Maldives last night, many had questioned whether it was really the same person due to the noticeable changes in him.
Police had now handed Luthfee over to Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) .
