Housing Ministry signed an agreement with two companies to undertake separate projects to develop 100 housing units in Lh. Naifaru and B. Thulhaaadhoo.
The housing project in Naifaru was entrusted to W&A Overseas for MVR 71.4 million, in which the company has 311 days to develop apartment-style units in the island's reclaimed zone. The units are expected to consist of three rooms, a sitting room, a bathroom, a kitchen, a storeroom and laundry.
Housing Ministry's State Minister Ahmed Nasheed and the company's Managing Director Ajuhadh Abdulla Zuhair signed the agreement, during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Housing Ministry.
It is noteworthy that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced the project during his visit to the island.
Meanwhile, the MVR 79.6 million project in Thulhaadhoo was handed over to a joint venture company of Precision Engineering Service and Flux Inc. Private Limited. The row houses will be built on the islands reclaimed zone, and are also expected to accommodate three rooms, a sitting room, three bathrooms, a kitchen, a storeroom as well as laundry.
The company will have 363 days to complete this project.
The Housing Ministry however pointed out that, despite the island's reclamation project being completed years ago, the development initiatives that took place there after were lower than the expected standards.
