Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has announced that he will be signing for Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP).
Speaking to VNews, Jabir, who has been quickly gaining momentum as a distinctive character in the 19th Parliament, said that even though DRP is currently very small it is one of the most significant political parties in the game.
He said that he considered signing for a party due to the drawbacks of being an independent candidate in the Parliament. He noted that his services to the ruling party, MDP, went unappreciated.
Jabir stated that DRP will not remain a small party with his inclusion, and that he plans to increase the number of members to 10,000 and improve the management of the party. He claimed that DRP will have a strong PG group in the future.
Jabir also informed that two other members will be signing for the party along with him.
DRP Leader Colonel Mohamed Nasheed said that DRP congratulates Jabir for his decision, and that DRP has a bright future ahead with Jabir in the mix.
Nasheed said that he is elated that two more Parliament Members will be signing for the party along with Jabir. He said that Jabir will be appointed as the leader of DRP's PG group, and the party will start functioning under him after DRP's Congress.
DRP was founded by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and was then represented by multiple political leaders, including Jabir, most of whom resigned after the dispute between Gayoom and then DRP leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.
DRP, once signed by thousands, now has few members registered.
