Maldives Media Council (MMC) has said that they are reviewing a case alleging the police of obstructing the journalists on the scene to cover former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb being summoned to court.
The Council revealed this in a statement released on Saturday.
It stated that members of the council had received complaints from journalists saying that the police had prevented them from performing their job.
MMC said the council has decided to look into the matter and take the necessary actions, as they are legally responsible for eliminating the obstacles journalists face and to provide them with freedom for the press. They informed that the matter was passed to be reviewed in a council meeting and that a committee had been assembled for the task.
Journalists have reported that SO Police had driven off the journalists on the scene and prevented them from taking photos or videos.
Journalists were reported to have been driven off to an alley to prevent them from capturing the events happening on the court doorway.
