Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that the number of people reported to have contracted dengue fever is higher this time of the year compared to the same period from the past two years.
HPA said that the number of reported dengue contractions also increased during the month of July compared to June.
The reports have come from Male', Hulhumale', Haa Dhaal Atoll, Dhaal Atoll, as well as Laamu Atoll.
HPA reveals that there has been a total of 3310 dengue contraction cases reported so far this year. HPA noted that the number of chikungunya cases reported to the agency has also increased from January to May this year, but decreased during the month of June.
There has been 1327 cases of chikungunya infection reported so far this year, of which a majority was reported from Male', Raa Atoll, and Gaaf Alif Atoll.
Meanwhile, HPA has been working with healthcare professionals and centres to control the spread of these diseases.
