The names submitted for membership as Information Commissioner by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have been opened for public discussion.
According to the parliament, they opened the matter for the public to submit complaints and discuss the issue under Article 201(d) of the Parliament Regulation.
The parliament sent the names submitted by the President to the Independent Institutions Committee of the parliament.
The names submitted by the President were Fiyaaz Moosa – Athamaage Thaa Vilufushi, Ahmed Fayaaz Hassan – Maafannu Haazaareevilla, Ahmed Aahid Rasheed – Henveiru Gurava, and Fathimath Saushan – Maafannu Vancouver.
The announcement from the parliament appealed the public to submit complaints to the parliament committee before September 1. The full name, permanent address and phone number must be included in the complaint, which can be sent via email or as a written document.
Former Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamaal Aboobakuru served as the first information commissioner. He was appointed to the position on July 22, 2014. With the end of his five year term on July 21 this year, the position is now vacant.
