Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, who was arrested and brought back whilst attempting to flee the country, has been electronically tagged with the MoniCon and transferred to house arrest.
Adeeb had been transferred home after being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) upon sustaining injuries while at Maafushi Prison.
Maldives Correctional Services (MCS) has confirmed his house arrest, however they did not disclose further details regarding it.
Adeeb has been charged with obstruction of law after he attempted to flee the country on a tug boat destined to India, although his passport was confiscated on the order of Supreme Court.
Adeeb was arrested outside India's Tuticorin, aboard a tugboat named Virgo-9, registered at Singapore. When presented to Criminal Court, Adeeb stated that he had to flee due to death threats from influential people in relation to the information shared by police regarding the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement scandal.
During the trial hearing on the case, Adeeb had stated that he carried out many illegal actions on the order of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
