The nomination of former finance minister Ali Hashim to the post of Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)'s Governer has been sent for evaluation to the parliament's Financial Committee.
Ali Hashim's name was sent for parliament approval on Wednesday.
The Governor position of MMA has been vacant with the resignation of former Governor Ahmed Naseer on July 24 this year. Naseer's resignation came at a time when great allegations was put forth by Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)'s former head Abdulla Ashraf.
According to MMA regulations, a new governor or deputy governor has to be appointed within 45 days of vacancy to either position.
Ali Hashim served as the finance minister from 2008 to 2010, during former President Mohamed Nasheed's reign. He also served as the Chairman of Addu International Company. He is currently the Chairman of the Presidential Election Commission.
