Maziya Sports and Recreation (MSR) have successfully attained the Championship title of the FA Cup Football Competition for their second time.
The first time the team obtained the title was back in 2012.
Maziya won the finals after beating the former victors of the title, New Radiant Sports Club (NRSC) with a score of 4-3 in penalty shoot-outs.
While both teams put on a competitive performance, none of the teams scored any goals resulting in the need for a penalty kick off to conclude a conqueror of the match.
At the match which took place at the National Football Stadium, although unsuccessful, both teams gained opportunities to score. During the first half, within 36 minutes into the game, Maziya’s foreign forward Riste Naumov had a narrow miss where a ball which he kicked in with his head hit the pole of the NRSC goal. Additionally, 65 minutes into the game, Assad Ali (Adde’) of Maziya also hit in a ball with no NRSC players in site of their area, however, unfortunately missed it.
During supplementary time of the game, NRSC also missed one chance where young team member forward Hamza Mohamed (Hampe’) kicked the ball with his head with no Maziya players to defend. Hampe’ sadly missed his kick as the ball flew close to the pole.
In last night’s match during the penalty shoot-out, for team Maziya, goals were achieved by Mohamed Arif (Baka), Assadullah Abdullah, Assad Ali (Adde’) and Moosa Yameen. The penalty kicked by Samdhoon of Maziya was controlled by goalkeeper for NRSC.
For NRSC, goals were attained by Mohamed Umair, Akram Abdul Ghanee and Ibrahim Fazeel (Oppo). While Maziya’s goalkeeper controlled the ball kicked in by Ahmed Abudllah (Lili), the goal kicked in by Ahmed Niyaz (Niya) was a slight miss as it hit the pole.
Minister of Youth and Sports Mr Mohamed Maleeh Jamal awarded players with their respective prizes.
