Maldives and Saudi Arabia sign agreement on religious cooperation.
At a ceremony held Thursday at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the agreement was signed by visiting Saudi Islamic Minster Salih bin Abdul Azeez and his Maldivian counterpart Dr Ahmed Ziyad Baghir.
After signing the agreement Dr Ziyad said that this agreement would facilitate training of Imaams and speed up work on completion of mosques. He added that it would also help in publishing religious books and in strengthening the Zakaat system.
Addressing the ceremony Salih bin Abdul Azeez said that, this would be an important step in bridging the existing relationship between the two countries. Describing Maldives and Saudi Arabia as siblings, Salih bin Abdul Azeez said that this agreement would reinforce the cooperation between the two countries.
Salih bin Abdul Azeez will depart to Saudi Arabia today, after concluding his three day visit. He met with President Abdulla Yameen and visited the Maldives Islamic University during his visit.
