Member of Parliament for Kendhoo Constituency Ali Hussain becomes first member from the 18th parliament to publish his financial statement.
A member of Jumhooree Party and a lawyer, Ali Hussain published his financial statement on facebook. He published his financial statement for one year; from May 28, 2014 to May 2015.
According to the statement MP Ali Hussain received MVR 935،300.01 as remuneration as a member of parliament for the duration. When the year started he had MVR 214،447.95 as savings. He got an income of MVR 216،000 from private work and MVR 712،260 was listed as personal expenditure. According to the statement MP Ali HUssain gave away MVR 456،000 as aid. He even added details of his assets, a car and 2 motorbikes.
Looking at business transactions, the MP had bought 21 shares from STO. He has 99% shares in a company named Vani Maldives Pvt. Ltd. He has registered a law firm as well.
Article 76 of the Constitution on Declaration of Assets for MPs state that, “every member shall annually submit to the Secretary General of the Parliament a statement of all property and monies owned by him, business interests and liabilities. Such declarations shall include the details of any other employment and obligations of such employment.”
Two MPs, South Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof and West Maafannu MP Abdulla Abdul Raheem were the only MPs to have declared there assets and published their financial statements from the 17th parliament.
