Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) says it has not purchased an engine vessel for MVR 5 million.
MPL said this in a statement sent to news outlets following a case submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) by a private party, claiming that the company had wasted MVR 5 million on buying a run-down vessel.
Denying the claim, MPL said it did not purchase a 45-foot vessel and that it purchased a 65-foot one for much less than MVR 5 million.
It also said that set regulations and policies were followed during the transaction and that the vessel was taken to MPL area in Thilafushi after bringing the modifications required to carry cargo and passengers.
MPL further said that the vessel was purchased to conduct various company trips and to carry cargo from Male’ to Thilafushi.
According to the company, such stories are being spread to tarnish its reputation and fade its success.
