Health Protection Agency (HPA) says number of dengue cases reported increased in 2016 compared to the previous year.
HPA’s statistics show that dengue cases reported in 2016 increase to 1,942 from 1,890 in 2015.
During the first half of 2015, number of cases reported stood at 452, while the figure more than doubled during the same period the following year.
While the highest number of dengue cases were reported from Laamu Atoll in 2015, Alif Dhaal Atoll reported the highest number of cases in 2016.
HPA says it will take additional preventive measures this year due to the increase in dengue cases last year, and that efforts are already being carried out in the capital and the rest of the country.
The Authority has been urging public to take precautionary measures, including getting rid of containers and places that collect stagnant water.
