ADK celebrates their 30th anniversary.
Setbacks are face by every country when it comes to the health sector. However, the aim by everyone, no doubt, would be to overcome such boundaries and develop health services in the country.
ADK Hospital is one such example. From humble beginnings to become the biggest private hospital in Maldives is no small feat. Once named ‘Medi Clinic’, they began services in Male’ on March 15, 1987.
Speaking at a special interview with VNews, ADK Hospital’s General Managing Director Ahmed Afaal said the clinic they started 30 years ago, in a small area, is now one of the largest hospitals in the private sector, currently equipped to provide a number of services.
Afaal said presently they are providing super specialty services in eight areas, which is a big development.
“Super specialty services provided by ADK is a big development and success. Major surgeries and other numerous services are available at the hospital”, he said.
According to ADK Hospital, although health services are provided with modern facilities at the hospital, ADK still faces challenges in providing health service in sufficient proportion for the demand of the public.
Such challenges include the lack of space and medical personnel to attend to the sick. In order to overcome this, ADK is currently constructing a new building, which would require a total of 1000 staff working to maintain the hospital.
Speaking about the lack of medical personnel, Afaal said they currently have 750 staff at their disposal. Hence a special importance will be given to train new staff to reach the required amount, Afaal pointed out.
ADK is currently working on introducing a catheterization laboratory (cath lab), specialized for heart diseases, and a theater equipped to perform open-heart surgery. Three more theaters are to be built in addition to the two currently in the hospital. Work is also done to double the number of beds from the current 80 existing in the hospital, Afaal said.
