Yameen administration has leveled corruption allegations against former home minister Umar Naseer.
Naseer, who is the first home minister of the administration, is being accused of corruption in relation to the activities held to mark 50th anniversary of Maldives’ independence.
During a press briefing on Monday, incumbent home minister Azleen Ahmed said although a committee was established to carry out preparations and activities of the Independence Day, tasks were assigned to some parties on the direct orders of then home minister, without the involvement of the committee.
Minister Ahmed said due to the suspicion that some of the tasks related to the Independence Day celebrations were carried out in violation of the Public Finance Act, Anti-Corruption Commission and Auditor General’s Office are carrying out investigations.
This comes at a time Umar Naseer has launched his presidential campaign.
