Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) said two teams competing in the Asian Men’s Central Zone volleyball tournament will arrive on Monday night.
Four teams, including Maldives, participated in the tournament this year. They are Turkmenistan, Nepal and Kyrgyzstan.
According to VAM, the two teams arriving on Monday night to compete in the tournament held from March 22 to 30, are Nepal and Kyrgyzstan. Turkmenistan team will join the other teams in Male’ on Wednesday.
Maldives team spent ten days at Thailand in a training camp to prepare for the tournament. Head coach Mohamed Sharaf said the team was well prepared for the tournament.
Sharaf said the teams participating in the tournament are well known to each other, hence all teams would be able to anticipate and benefit from this knowledge. Maldives had the added benefit of being the host country of the tournament, he said.
Two former players, renowned attacker Shaain Mohamed (Shaahintey) and Ali Aamir (Dhigu Ayya), did not make the team, the former due to injury.
