Maldives Police Service (MPS) informed the family of brutally murdered blogger Yameen Rasheed, that the identity of his killers are unknown, after previously releasing the photos of two suspects.
Yameen’s father Hussain Rasheed said that the police met with the family on Saturday, a week after Yameen’s brutal murder. The police said that the case was under serious investigation and that although the photos of two suspects were released, their identity is yet unknown.
Hussain Rasheed quoted the police and said the killers shown on the photos that were released by the police, were in disguise. Hence, they were unable to identify the suspects.
Yameen’s father said while the investigation continues, they had appealed for international help in the case.
Police released the photo of two men, suspected to have killed Yameen, in a press conference held on April 25.
Speaking to the media, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz said the assault on Yameen was reported to them around 3 a.m. on April 23. Police rushed to the scene and took him to the hospital, he said.
Nawaz said police had gathered crucial information and physical evidence relating to the case. He also requested anyone with information relating to the case to come forward promptly.
Nawaz said both suspects were caught on CCTV footage.
Yameen was found near the staircase of his home, M. Spectular early Sunday night, sustaining brutal stab wounds. He was first discovered by a resident of the house.
Yameen succumbed to injuries later, while being treated at state-run Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, according to the hospital.
According to reports, Yameen’s chest alone had 14 deep stab wounds.
