Maldives Police Service has given two weeks’ notice to blogger Muzaffar Mohamed Naeem, better known as Muju Naeem, to appear at the police station.
Police’s announcement did not state why Naeem, who is living abroad, is being investigated, but stated that he is being summoned to allow him to speak in his own defence.
It also stated that if he fails to present himself to the police within the given time frame, the case will be investigated in his absence and forwarded for prosecution.
Naeem is an outspoken social media activist and blogger who often writes about his secular views.
Last week police issued a similar notice against former Judicial Service Commission (JSC) member Aishath Velezinee, who is currently living in The Hague, Netherlands.
Although police have not revealed any details about the case, Velezinee is reportedly being investigated for blasphemy.
In March, Islamic ministry had declared Velezinee an apostate.
